Dinosaur Theme Party for Kids

A Dinosaur themed party could take place in a variety of ways. For younger children, have a Flintstone party or a Jurassic Park themed party. For older children, plan a trip to a campground. After you have set up your tents and other camping equipment, teach the children to collect wood to build a campfire. Then when the food is served, get the children to sit around and tell stories of times long ago. Times when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Read up on dinosaurs and tell them about the different types of dinosaurs, the herbivores and carnivores and their respective names. Discuss why the dinosaurs went extinct.

Other activities to include in your childs dinosaur themed party would be the following:

Plan a dinosaur egg hunt. Leave clues around for the children to lead them to huge dinosaur eggs. Fill these eggs with presents for them to take home as souvenirs. Let the kids break a huge dinosaur piata. Out will come gushing lots of small pieces of candy and other goodies for the children to take home too. Play pin a tail on the dinosaur instead of on a donkey. To give more excitement hide a balloon behind the place where the tail should be and when the tail is pinned there, the balloon will burst and go pop!

Serve a dinosaur shaped cake. You can either bake your own with the use of a dinosaur shaped mold at a party store or order one from the bakery.

Play a dinosaur egg relay. Two rows of children are formed racing against one another while carrying a dinosaur egg on a spoon. The egg can be a goose or chicken egg dyed either green or yellow.

Decorate Cookies. This is a favorite among children because they love to decorate something they can eat later or take home.

Before the guests arrive, plan how you want to decorate for your dinosaur party usually green streamers with green balloons. You may add to your home the plants, trees and other geographical formations reminiscent of prehistoric times. Perhaps you can have the party in a garden and let the children sit on rocks and eat chicken drumsticks.

Other fun food served at dinosaur themed parties include dinosaur shaped finger Jell-O and dinosaur shaped sandwiches (either egg salad or peanut butter and jelly).

In order to add to the authenticity of the dinosaur themed party, get ready Green punch or Kool-Aid, dinosaur invites (either homemade or commercial ones) and dinosaur movies and cartoons.

To reduce your workload you can ask permission if you could hold your party at your local amusement park if there are already some dinosaur themes (for example some shrubs are already trimmed to shapes of animals especially of dinosaurs) there. Learn from other parents who might have planned such a party before. The better prepared you are for a party the better you and your children will enjoy.
